We need to encourage developers to create downtown housing and
entice people to live near downtown’s easy access to public
transit. We need to pass Measure F
With Measure F, Morgan Hill voters are being asked to tweak the city’s general plan and growth control system to allow more housing downtown.
It’s an easy call: Yes on Measure F.
Morgan Hill residents value a vibrant downtown. We’ve invested redevelopment agency funds, sought grants, and funded studies to work toward that goal.
Perhaps the single most important thing we can do to increase downtown’s vitality and economy is to entice more people to live there.
By moving 100 housing units from the outlying areas of the city to downtown (the area between Main and Dunne avenues and Del Monte Avenue and the railroad tracks) and by accelerating the awarding of those housing unit allotments, we go a long way toward achieving that goal.
Measure F also helps to make downtown housing projects more economically viable for developers, which is critical for any projects to begin.
The Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce, the Morgan Hill Downtown Association, and the entire Morgan Hill City Council have endorsed Measure F. They understand that this is a pivotal time for downtown Morgan Hill.
The Community Center and playhouse are open for businesses, Depot Street improvements are under way, the county courthouse will open next year, and new business owners are hanging their shingles downtown.
We need to keep the momentum going. We need to encourage developers to create downtown housing. We need to entice people to live near downtown’s easy access to public transit.
We need to pass Measure F.
