The Gavilan women’s basketball season kicked off this weekend, but not the way it wanted.
The Rams season started off with a 74-43 loss at College of San Mateo Saturday.
Gavilan fell behind early, trailing 35-15 at the half, and just wasn’t able to come back.
The Rams were led offensively by Kelsey Caudill, who scored 19 points in the game. She made two of her six 3-point attempts and grabbed six rebounds total — one on offense, five on defense. Caudill went 3 for 4 from the line and added a block and a steal in the contest.
Felicia Lee-Cardenas went 5 for 6 from the free throw line.
The Rams will be looking to rebound against Yuba when the two teams play at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Marysville.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Rams fall to Ohlone
Gavilan trailed by 36 points at the half, a deficit it wouldn’t be able to fight back from.
The Rams men’s basketball team fell 95-44 to Ohlone College Saturday on the road, dropping the team to 1-3 on the season.
Sean McGahey and Alex Lozano led the Rams, both scoring eight points in the game. McGahey going 1 for 2 from the line and making one of his three 3-point attempts. Lozano was 2 for 2 from the line and grabbed five rebounds and an assist for Gavilan.
The Rams will be back in action at 3 p.m. on Nov. 27 when they play at Skyline College.
VOLLEYBALL
Rams roll Skyline
The Gavilan volleyball teams continues to stay hot, picking up back-to-back shutouts.
The Rams latest victim was Skyline, which they beat 3-0 on Friday in San Bruno. The Rams also beat West Valley 3-0 on Wednesday at home.
Gavilan topped Skyline 25-13, 25-14, 25-15 and was led by Savanna Hartman with eight kills in the game. Tasmin Apple added six, while Andreinna Castaneda had five.
Sabina Gerard had 23 assists in the game, while Karina Daniels picked up 22 digs.
The Rams (20-7 overall, 10-1 in conference) will close out the regular season against Canada College at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at home.

Gavilan ends season with loss to Evergreen
That wasn’t the ending Gavilan was hoping for.
The Rams fell 4-1 at Evergreen Thursday in San Jose in the team’s season finale.
Gavilan trailed 4-0 at the half and was finally able to score in the 72nd minute off a goal by Alejandro Gaeta, which was assisted by David Valencia.
The Rams finished fourth out of five teams in the Coast Conference North Division with a 5-15 overall record, 3-11 in conference.
