Morgan Hill Unified teachers lined up outside a local elementary school one recent afternoon for the Teachers Aid Coalition’s annual spring classroom supply giveaway.
About 100 MHUSD teachers attended the giveaway at P.A. Walsh Elementary School on West Main Avenue March 5. Teachers helped themselves to basic supplies they need for their classrooms, such as Kleenex boxes, rulers, felt markers, chalk, copy paper and other supplies, according to TAC founder Jon Hatakeyama.
All the items were purchased with funds raised by the TAC, a local nonprofit started in 1999 to help local schools and their students and teachers by raising money to purchase these necessary supplies, which are not included in the school district’s budget.
TAC’s recent Chocolate and Wine for Valentines fundraiser – held in February – raised about $10,000 for this year’s supply giveaway efforts, Hatakeyama said. TAC is also planning a fall giveaway.
