Jose Carlos Amaya Rountree

Meet Jose Carlos Amaya Rountree, a 17-year-old senior at Live Oak High School and the Times’ “Student of the Week.”
What inspires you?
The thought of my friends and family who are hoping that I have a positive life and a successful future.
What is your favorite subject in school, and why?
To tell the truth, I don’t see any trouble with any of my school subjects. But if I had to choose which one was my favorite, it would have to be Computer Multimedia. I want to pursue a career in entertainment and animation. Basically, story and illustrations that people, and myself, want to see.
If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be?
If I had the power to change one thing in the world, it would be that instead of using money for weapons, use it to fund education for the younger generation of children. That way, the future could have peace instead of chaos.
If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
If I could go anywhere, it would be Tokyo, Japan. I’d like to see its beautiful sights and tourist attractions. I wish to meet new friends and learn more about Japanese art and anime.
Name one big challenge in your life right now:
To finish and graduate from high school with all the requirements I need.
What is your dream job:
I want to join the movie business. I wish to become a professional actor, voice actor, and writer.
If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things could you not live without?
I couldn’t live without my family, my tools for drawing, and my two best friends.
Favorite book:
“Great Expectations” by Charles Dickens.
What are your plans post high school?
I wish to attend a college and improve my knowledge.
Something that makes you smile?
What makes me smile is making people happy in any way I can
The Times features a different student from a local high school each week during the school year. Students are selected by their principals.
