Four local wineries made South County proud at the California State Fair Wine Competition in Sacramento. The winners were announced Thursday.

Established in 1855, the event is touted as North America’s “oldest and most prestigious” wine competition committed to recognizing the best wines of the state and the dedication of wineries and vintners in the Golden State’s viticulture and oenology industry.

This year, 2,625 wine entries were received from 709 participating wineries. Seventy-two judges on 18 panels awarded medals, including 48 Double Gold, 207 Gold, 915 Silver and 618 Bronze, according to the California State Fair website. View the entire list of winners here.

Gold: Barbera (Best of Class of Region)

Silver: Petite Sirah (Best of Class of Region), Merlot, Charbono

Martin Ranch

Gold: Merlot, Zinfandel (Both Best of Class of Region)

Silver: Syrah (Santa Clara Valley), Syrah (Santa Cruz Mountains), Chardonnay, Carignane

Bronze: Sangiovese

Solis Winery

Silver: Sangiovese, Red Blend (Best of Class of Region), Rhone blend (Best of Class of Region)

Bronze: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel
