According to a new report released by AAA, the statewide average for gas prices has fallen 12 cents since May to $3.26 per gallon. However, the report stated that gas prices are still 90 cents per gallon higher than they were this time last year.
The Bay Area is averaging 4 cents higher than the state average at $3.28 per gallon with San Francisco topping the chart at $3.33 per gallon.
California is still 36 cents higher than the national average of $2.90 per gallon.
The report cites a return to normal production levels from the California refineries, which AAA says were below normal in the spring.
