The Pride of Morgan Hill 12-and-under C team travelled to San Diego and competed in the California State Championships July 13-15, and finished fifth out of 15 teams.

On July 13 the team participated in the opening ceremonies at Qualcom Stadium along with other athletes from multiple sports including archery, baseball, skateboarding, basketball, and gymnastics.

The team marched in the parade and members were shown on a big screen monitor holding the “Pride of Morgan Hill” banner.

While most teams in the Western Regional C Softball Championship had a game the morning of Juy 13, Pride’s first game was not until 1:15pm, essentially giving them a bye for the first round.

Pride played tough Southern California teams La Canada and El Cajon, the top two teams of the tournament, and would face La Canada twice.

Pride 6, La Canada 2

After a scoreless first inning for both teams, Justina Piedra started a five run rally by stealing home plate in the top of the second inning.

During the bottom of the second, short stop Krystal Rock made a great snag for an easy out at first base.

A high fly ball, caught by left fielder Lyxi Kyles brought the third out to end the second inning.

In the third inning Pride demonstrated more great defense as third base person Shannon Greene, catcher Kim George, pitcher Jessica Post and short stop Krystal Rock caught a potential home-plate stealer in a pickle, closing in on the runner by rotating into position and enabling Rock to tag her out.

In the fourth inning Amy Fearnside hit a homerun to left field bringing the score to 6-2.

Pitcher Jessica Post did a fine job holding off La Canada batters to finish the game.
