Morgan Hill residents Chris Matsuoka and Jina Park, students at Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville, have been nominated to compete for the National Honor Society Scholarship sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
Jeff Hoogeveen, assistant superintendent of academic affairs at Monte Vista, announced Matsuoka’s and Park’s nominations to the national competition. The program annually awards $200,000 in college scholarships. In addition to the $10,000 award presented to the national recipient, special recognition and additional awards will be given to state and regional winners.
Nominees were selected on the basis of their leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs, achievements in the arts and sciences, employment experience, and academic record. They also were required to write an essay.
“These two students have demonstrated both academic excellence and outstanding qualities of leadership and character,” said Hoogeveen. “They are great students, and they are active in serving the community. We are pleased to be able to nominate them for this honor.”
