Private Schools, Las Madres Host Information Fair

Area private schools will be hosting a K-12 information fair 7-9pm, Jan. 18, at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center’s El Toro Room. Admission is free. The event is sponsored by the Watsonville-based private Mount Madonna School and .

Representatives from Anchor Point Christian High School, Crossroads Christian School, Mount Madonna School, St. Catherine School, and Shadow Mountain Baptist School will answer questions from the public.

The Las Madres of Morgan Hill 2002 group will also sponsor that same evening a “meet and greet” of preschools and kindergartens in Morgan Hill. Representatives for many schools will be available to give information about their school, such as curriculum, student work, pictures, cost, etc. Many schools also provide day-care services.

Puzzle Day at Sobrato High School

SOBRATO HIGH SCHOOL, 401 Burnett Ave., will be the center stage for Silicon Valley Puzzle Day 10am-4pm, Feb. 24. There will be crossword and Sudoku tournaments for all levels, a giant Silicon Valley themed community crossword, workshops and wordgames. Prizes will be awarded in several categories. Registration fee is $20 for adults and $10 for students, with a $2 discound for members of the Friends of the Morgan Hill Library. Proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Morgan Hill Library’s “Beyond Books Campaign.” A “marketplace” with food, puzzle books and other items will be available.

Free Practice for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

PRINCETON REVIEW will provide free practice testing and a strategy session for high school students at the Gilroy Library, 7387 Rosanna St. Students must sign up at the library by Jan. 20. Test is 10am-2pm, Feb.3 and results and strategy session is 10am-2pm, Feb. 10.

Parents Discuss Disabilities

Meet with a roundtable of parents, school staff, and local professionals who have faced the joys and challenges of working with children with disabilities such as ADHD, high functioning and low functioning autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, NLD, LD, OCD, ODD, bipolar disorder, Tourette’s Syndrome, medical or vision impaired and other disabilities.

Network and learn how to more effectively participate in the educational plans for your child and available resources. Learn about the rights of the parent/guardian and the child with a disability.

Meeting is Jan. 24. Social time starts at 6:30pm and the program starts at 7pm at the Gilroy Unified Board Room, 7810 Arroyo Circle. Translation and childcare available.
