Josephine Togliatti

Morgan Hill

A member of one of Morgan Hill’s founding families passed away Wednesday. Josephine Togliatti was 77 when she died. She was born Nov. 17, 1930 in Pomona to Carmella Alosi and Rose Puliafico of Palermo, Italy. The family moved to Morgan Hill when Togliatti was 10 years old and were one of the few families in the community at the time.

Togliatti attended the former Morgan Hill School and helped with the family farm on Foothill Avenue, which is still owned by family members, and helped in the country store on Monterey Road owned by her father.

She later married Chester Togliatti and started her own family, remaining in Morgan Hill.

She is survived by her four children, Rosemary Togliatti, Chester Togliatti, Jr., Dennis Togliatti, all of San Martin, and Mamie Togliatti Gnibus of Carlsbad, and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine Catholic Church, 17400 Peak Ave. Interment will be private.
