Sick of drugs at Sobrato
Dear Editor,Â
I am a senior at Live Oak High School and within the four years that I have been there, much has happened. I have seen the “Goth” period come and go, and now the “Emos” have arrived. Also, I have seen a huge increase in the amount of drugs that are present at school. I have never done drugs, nor do I intend to, but many people at school do them almost every day. The bathrooms at school have become a place where people smoke and it sometimes travels through the ventilation into classroom. I know that it is impossible to eliminate drugs and alcohol abuse, but instead of an increase in the use, I would like to see a decrease.
Whenever I talk to someone who does do drugs, I always tell them the same thing, “you’re damaging yourself by doing that.” They have two different responses, one of them is to claim that drugs help them, instead of damage them. They think that drugs can be good for them, and clean out their lungs. The other response is to say that they do not care and that no one lives forever.
I think the leading cause of this is the parents, who during their youth or even their adult years, did drugs or drank a lot. This makes them feel that they can not tell their children to stop, since they did it themselves. I feel that no matter what choices you make in your past, your children should come first, and their health should be more important to you than getting called a hypocrite.Â
