Charter, City Come to the Rescue
Dear Editor,
On Aug. 23, the fiber optic cables utilized by the Morgan Hill Unified School District for network and telephone communications were damaged. This resulted in a loss of phone and network service at most of our school sites.
On behalf of MHUSD I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Charter Communications and the City of Morgan Hill for their quick and professional response in mitigating the damage sustained to the cabling. Barry Egan and George Rezendes of Charter Communications and Tony Eulo and Glen Ridder of the City of Morgan Hill quickly arranged for repair crews as well as monitored the progress of the restoration of service throughout the entire day. The district truly appreciates the cooperation and teamwork extended by the staffs of these two entities.

A Better Grange Hall
Dear Editor,
The Leadership Morgan Hill program requires each of its yearly classes to complete a project benefitting our community. This year’s class chose to improve the exterior and grounds of the downtown’s Grange Building.
Our class would like to thank companies that significantly helped us by providing time, labor and materials. These are Devcon Construction, D.R. Domenichini Construction, South Bay Construction, and Techcon Landscape Construction. Paul Swing, president and CEO of Techcon and a graduate of Leadership Morgan Hill, gave considerably in improvements of the Grange’s grounds.
We would also like to thank all the members of our community who helped provide necessary funds for our project. Everyone who contributed proved they are true leaders in making Morgan Hill a better place.

Tax on Oil to Fund $190 Billion War
Dear Editor,
Congress should pass pay-as-you-go funding for the $190 billion requested by President Bush to keep combat in Iraq afloat for another year. A tax on oil companies and companies that profit from the Iraq quagmire would quickly pay these funds to support our troops.

Theater Thanks Community Foundation

A big thank you to the Morgan Hill Community Foundation for sponsoring South Valley Civic Theatre and 10 other non-profit groups at the Taste of Morgan Hill in their Non-Profit Plaza. The theatre received a lot of interest from people throughout our community who were reminded they don’t have to travel to San Jose or San Francisco to enjoy live theater since we have it right in our own backyard at the Morgan Hill Playhouse.
We’re a non-profit organization which had its humble beginnings in Gilroy. Originally, a nomadic group of theater lovers called The Gilroy Community Theatre performed in various venues in and around Gilroy. As it grew in popularity and drew new members it was decided in the ’80s to change the name to South Valley Civic Theatre to encourage participants in South County and beyond.
In giving back to the community, South Valley Civic Theatre sponsored some senior citizen residents from Pacific Hills Manor who enjoyed our 2pm performance of Arsenic and Old Lace on Oct. 7. Apparently, they have quite a few actors and actresses at Pacific Hills Manor who like traveling just five minutes from their home to enjoy live entertainment. It was a pleasure to have them in our audience.
