Today’s “View” is especially directed to our community readers, because the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce is preparing two significant community events, and we genuinely hope you will participate in each of them. We also have a very special thank you!

The 2008 Salute Morgan Hill will be held at 6pm, Jan. 26 at the Community and Cultural Center. But first, the chamber is enthusiastically requesting and gratefully accepting nominations for the 2008 Salute Morgan Hill awards from individuals, organizations or businesses.

Salute Morgan Hill awards are given annually in recognition of outstanding and unselfish service to our community. Nominees should have a long history of service, civic involvement and leadership in Morgan Hill. These awards are presented in the following categories: Woman of the Year, Man of the Year, Educator of the Year, Student of the Year and Business of the Year.

In 2007, our community’s award winners were Gene Guglielmo, Man of the Year; Carol O’Hare, Woman of the Year; Johnson Lumber, Business of the Year; Donna Walton, Educator of the Year; Isela Banuelos, Student of the Year; and Ida Williams and Ramona Etchebarne, Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce Volunteers of the Year.

Nomination forms are available at the chamber, 90 East Second St., and can be forwarded electronically by e-mailing Patti DeLaRosa at

or calling her at (408) 779-9444.

The chamber is also holding its inaugural BOWL – BOCCE & BILLIARDS from 4-9pm, Nov. 13, at Morgan Hill Bowl, 650 Tennant Station.

Bowl – Bocce – Billiards’ purpose is to be a fun and exciting way for community nonprofit organizations, sports teams, schools, clubs, civic organizations and other nonprofit groups to raise funds for their various needs. Our vision is that this will be an annual event and that these organizations and groups will permanently put it on their FUNdraising calendar. Morgan Hill Bowl has been fantastic in helping the chamber plan this special community event and are excited about the opportunities it provides nonprofit organizations which can use such an enjoyable vehicle to raise much needed funds for their programs.

To participate, it will be $125 for each team and $25 for an individual player. Sponsorships are available and include the Bowling Towel Sponsor for $1,000, and each Lane Sponsorship is $250.

Again, the contact for this event is DeLaRosa. Pledge sheets are available at the chamber and Morgan Hill Bowl and can also be e-mailed to you by either e-mailing DeLaRosa or calling her.

These significant events are community focused, and the chamber sincerely hopes that you will participate in them both.
