Suddenly, with the hot-button issue of trails proposed near the Jackson Oaks neighborhood, four Jackson Oaks residents are vying for three open seats on the BTAC board.
Meanwhile, the two open seats on the Mobile Home Rent Commission remain unfilled and, apparently, unwanted by any city residents.
While the Jackson Oaks residents who’ve applied for the BTAC seats claim that their sudden interest in the long-vacant BTAC seats aren’t motivated by the desire to quash trails proposed near their homes, their timing is quite coincidental, to say the least.
All appointments to city commissions and committees are approved by City Council, and we urge council members to ensure that all committees are as balanced as possible, not only demographically, but also geographically, by including residents from all segments of the city.
Of course, council members can only do that if they have a large enough pool of applicants. Beggars can’t be choosers, after all.
We applaud those who quietly serve in these posts, volunteering their time and energy to help make Morgan Hill a better place for all of us. If you’ve got passion or expertise that the city could put to use in one of these boards, consider applying for a seat on an advisory board.
Descriptions of each commission, contact information for current members, dates when their terms expire, and application forms are available on the city’s web site (www.morgan-hill.ca.gov) or at City Hall.
Service on an advisory board is a great way to get a taste of city politics, to learn more about how city government works, and most of all, to help make this community a better place to live – for everyone. Let’s give city council a wide variety of applicants from which to choose – apply for an advisory board seat today.
