Well, our annual ski/winter break has come to an end and all of the students are coming back to school looking forward to our next break – Easter. But until then, Live Oak is, as usual, full of activities.
On the Thursday before break, Live Oak held its annual Lip Scene. Held in the Little Theatre, Live Oak Students who signed up to perform their favorite artist showed their stuff for all to see. First place went to the awesome performance of Alan Dronek and Travis Blanchard as the Blues Brothers. They were awarded the first place prize of $100.
ASB also performed in the Lip Scence, performing in their separate classes. The sophomores performed Lion King, the Juniors lipped to the Spice Girls, and the Seniors rocked out to the Rockefeller Skank. In the contest between the three, there was a two-way tie between the the sophomores and juniors.
At the end of the the performances, the winners of San Benito High School’s Lip Scene showed us their stuff. Live Oak invites them every year since Lip Scene is such a big event down in Hollister.
Their three performances were awesome and we really appreciate their efforts to come up and show us what they have.
Also during our week before our break, ASB sold their Crush soda cans, lollipops, and roses to be sent out on Valentine’s Day.
It was a huge success again this year, and was a chance for some to find out their secret crush!
Upcoming events include our Battle of the Bands and our Academic Assembly. Our annual Battle of the Bands is coming up quick – it is this Saturday, March 4. Held in the main gym, it is a showcase of all of our local bands around Live Oak.
It should be a really cool show and I recommend coming out to see for yourself this Saturday from 8pm to 11pm.
On a lower key, our Academic Assembly for the first semester will be held on Thursday, March 16 at approximately 10:45 am in the main gym. We will be honoring all students who achieved a 3.5 and higher for the first semester.
This is also a chance for the parents to take their kids out and have a nice little lunch together to congratulate them on their good work.
Though our break is over, there’s still plenty to be excited about for spring.
And I am pretty sure it’s safe to start our countdown to the last day of school (or more importantly, graduation!) which stands at 73 school days from today.
I also wanted to send a note of congrats to all of our winter sports for their efforts this season.
Guys soccer and basketball put in a good fight through the season and both made it to CCS this year. Congrats to all winter sports and let’s get ready for spring!
