Morgan Hill family donates bikes
For four years, Presentation High School senior Michelle Reuter of Morgan Hill has made sure the school’s annual holiday toy drive is complete with every child’s dream – bicycles.
What started out as a personal donation of half her babysitting money to be matched by her parents to purchase one bicycle her freshman year has grown to a donation of more than 115 bicycles for Sacred Heart Community Services.
Last year, the Reuters donated 38 bikes to Sacred Heart, but this year they tripled that number. Michelle’s father, Mark Reuter, received help from friends and associates from his work at MDR Machine, Inc., in Morgan Hill, to help make this the largest donation year to date.
When asked why she’s passionate about making sure bicycles are a part of the annual drive, Michelle said, “I started freshman year because my bicycle was something I loved when I was a kid. It’s part of my childhood memories, and I know that children who are less fortunate than me don’t have that same luxury and privilege.”
The toy drive is the last of three holiday drives for the high school. Last year, Presentation students and faculty donated more than 2,200 toys.
