for their achievements and awarded $5,500 in scholarships on May

Gilroy Elks Lodge #1567, as part of the Elks National Youth Week, honored seven graduating seniors from Gilroy and Morgan Hill for their achievements and awarded $5,500 in scholarships on May 4.
Sobrato High School seniors Colin Shew and Amy McBirney were the big winners of the evening with each receiving $1,000 from the Gilroy Elks and $800 from the California-Hawaii Elks Association. Other recipients included: Live Oak High School seniors Kean Vaziry, who received $500 from the Gilroy Elks, Danika Basista, who received $1,000 from the Gilroy Elks and Matthew Alpert who received $500 from the Gilroy Elks. Monte Vista Senior Timothy Smedlund received $1,000 from the Gilroy Elks and Sobrato High School Senior Kiley Foster received $500 from the Gilroy Elks.
These students, their families and Live Oak High School Scholarship Coordinator Jan Bergkamp enjoyed dinner and the awards presentation as guests of the Gilroy Elks.
