A stylist at Shear Color & Design known affectionately around the salon as “the Tin Man” is in need of his second heart transplant. Craig Moreno’s co-workers are hosting a “Cuts for the Heart” Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in honor of their co-worker and friend.

Moreno, 39, is married to Shear stylist Janine and together they have an 8-year-old son Aiden. The 1990 Live Oak High School graduate first experienced heart problems in 2001 just two days into his honeymoon in Hawaii. He had contracted cardio-megaly, a virus and at 29-years-old, Moreno was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. In 2003, Moreno received a new heart at Stanford Medical Center.

Last month, Moreno’s health slipped and again he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. A planned surgery to aid Moreno’s heart with an artificial one will send the family from Stanford Hospital to Southern California, putting more strain on the family’s finances.

The salon, located at 16375 Monterey Road in Candy Park, is offering a $10 cut and $20 cut and blow-dry Sunday. All proceeds will go to the Moreno family. Also, Dutchman’s Pizza at 16375 Monterey Road will donate 20 percent of Sunday’s profits to the Moreno family.
