school’s Future Farmers of America are desperate for mowers, balers
and tractors to strengthen its hay production and keep the
chapter’s farm functional.

The school’s Future Farmers of America are desperate for mowers, balers and tractors to strengthen its hay production and keep the chapter’s farm functional.
The chapter is thriving with 380 members and their Sobrato farm has a greenhouse, livestock barns and the alfalfa acreage, which is mostly underdeveloped due to the lack of equipment.
FFA is a national organization formed in 1928 and teaches youths agricultural education in public schools. The organization is managed by the State Department of Education and also incorporates community involvement and public speaking into the curriculum.
Sobrato FFA members are asking the community to donate any farm equipment in working condition to further provide “endless hands-on learning opportunities,” according to the Santa Clara County Farm Bureau. Tractors, power takeoff implements and three-point implements to move dirt, till, mow, plant, level and harvest are all needed. Equipment needing minor repairs can provide a beneficial learning opportunity for Sobrato’s metal shop students.

Also, the Sobrato FFA is hosting a tri-tip dinner pick-up fundraiser Jan. 25. Tickets are $25 each and the meal includes a whole cooked tri-tip, a loaf of garlic bread and side of beans.
