This is a big weekend for resource conservation in Morgan Hill.
Not only do we have our local Community Garage Sale on Saturday and
Sunday, but we have a new event,
“Keep Your Gear in Play,” this Saturday at the Community and
Cultural Center. “Keep Your Gear in Play Day” is your chance to
give your gently used, but no longer needed, sporting goods and
play equipment to our local nonprofit community.

“Keep Your Gear in Play Day” is your chance to give your gently used, but no longer needed, sporting goods and play equipment to our local nonprofit community. I think if we seriously look around our homes, nearly all of us would be able to find a small collection of sports equipment that is definitely not being used. Whether it’s the soccer cleats that no longer fit your children, the tennis racket signed by Jimmy Conners, or the camping stove that hasn’t seen the wilderness since Ronald Reagan was in office, this Saturday is your opportunity to donate these items to a local nonprofit that will ensure that they get used again. Think of it as a new convenient opportunity to do the right thing. Here’s what to look for: Hula Hoops, Cones, Soccer Balls, Footballs, Basketballs, Dodge Balls, Handballs, Baseballs, Cleats (tied together), Baseball Gloves, Baseball Bats, Boxing Gloves and Head Gear, Punching Bags, Snow Boots (tied together), Snow Shoes, and Sleeping Bags (clean). Please bring them between 10am and 4pm to the Community and Cultural Center.

Our other event this weekend is an oldie but goodie. The Community Garage Sale will feature over 120 sales spread throughout the community. I hate to tip you off early, but people will be selling some interesting stuff this year including a rowboat, stained glass, horse tack, collectable items, and a vintage Cadillac. The sales start at 8am so be ready to shop, shop, shop this weekend.

Eco-Fact of the Week: Both the Garage Sale and “Keep Your Gear in Play Day” provide opportunities for “reuse.” Reuse is considered even better than recycling because the items reused get a second chance to work without requiring the input of processing and manufacturing energy and labor.

Eco-Web Site of the Week: The map and list of addresses for the Garage Sale can be found on the City’s web site at www.morganhill.ca.gov. Those of you preferring a hard copy can pick them up at City Hall, and also at Chevron (15865 Monterey Road), Caffee Kaffee Vin (17400 Monterey Road), 7-11 (295 W. Main Avenue), and Y’A Bon (226 Cochrane Plaza.)
