Pinto division Mariners vs. Yankees Anchored by Sammy Johnson at
shortstop and Ryan Spohn at 2nd, the Yankee defense came out strong
for the 3rd game in a row by shutting out the Mariners for the
first two innings. Anthony Saso, who started the game at pitcher
for the Yanks, had a big offensive night with two doubles and a
triple. After the slow start, the Mariners came back to get their
limit in the 3rd and 4th innings.

Anthony Saso, who started the game at pitcher for the Yanks, had a big offensive night with two doubles and a triple. After the slow start, the Mariners came back to get their limit in the 3rd and 4th innings. The Mariner defense also improved during the game with several excellent plays. In the play of the game for the Mariners, an aggressive Yankee baserunner was thrown out at the plate in the 4th inning. In addition to Saso, Yankees with extra base hits included Johnson, Gus Rubio, Alejandro Torres, and Kyle Simmons. Rubio’s hits proved to be extremely timely as he had 4 RBIs in the first two innings. Strong defensive performances were turned in by Brandon Puthoff, Jeremiah Diaz, Zachary Herscovitch, Auggie Eulo, and Jimmy Castro.

The Mets and the Cubs played to a 9-9 tie before the game was called due to darkness. Extra innings will be completed at a later date. The Cubs struck first,
scoring a run in the 1st inning on a single and some good baserunning by Kyle Kinsey. The Mets tied the score at 1-1 in the 2nd inning on a single by Zack McKerrow to score Rousseu. The Mets took the lead in the 3rd inning, scoring 3 runs on singles by Paresa and Sam Aptekar and a crushing hit into center field by Armijo for a double. The Cubs kept it close by scoring 2 runs of their own on walks and great baserunning by Kinsey and Andrew Bueno. The Mets broke it open in the 4th, scoring 5 runs on 5 walks and singles by Christopher Sheehan, Patrick Gustafson, and Styczynski to take a 9-3 lead. The Cubs added 1 run in the 4th on a fielder’s choice sacrifice grounder by Matt Cummings, scoring Mike Jarvis. The Cubs’ Dylan Kral started a rally in the bottom of the 5th by drawing a walk, stealing 2nd and 3rd, and then stealing home, sliding just under the catcher’s tag. The rally continued with singles by Matt Jarvis and Bueno and walks for Kinsey and Mike Jarvis scoring 1 run and loading the bases. Garcia then crushed a hit into deep centerfield for a 3-RBI triple, tying the score at 9-9.

Home: Cubs, 6 runs on 7 hits
The Giants and the Cubs played a thrilling game on
Saturday afternoon, with the Cubs ending up on top, 6-2. The Giants scored first in the top of the 1st inning, with Tommay Naranjo hitting a double into left centerfield and scoring on stolen bases. Cubs pitcher Mitchell Pasek limited the Giants to the 1 run. The Cubs would strike in the 2nd inning. Cubs’ batter Matt Cummings drew a walk to start the bottom of the 2nd and scored on stolen bases. After walks to Tim Kahlenberg and Jaryd Pollard, Kahlenberg also stole home, and a single from Matt Jarvis scored Pollard. The Cubs scored another run in the 3rd when Kyle Kinsey drew a walk and scored on stolen bases. The Giants started to get back into the game in the 4th inning, scoring a run when Andrew Warnock drew a walk and then showed some great speed on the basepaths, stealing 2nd, taking 3rd on a throwing error, and then stealing home on a passed ball. The Cubs added a run on a walk to Pollard, who stole 2nd and 3rd and then came home on a single from Matt Jarvis. Jarvis then scored on a thundering triple to deep rightfield by Bueno.
