County residents are eligible for state funding now that the Santa Clara County Supervisors has adopted an oak woodlands preservation plan.

“I think the oaks are symbolic of this valley and to try and preserve them is a positive thing,” Supervisor Don Gage said.

A range of projects is eligible for funding, from something as simple as installing wire baskets to protect young oaks to buying and planting rows of trees.

Groups including the Land Trust and The Nature Conservancy are interested in getting money to buy conservation easements to protect farm land and open space from development.

Grant money should be available this summer. For more information, contact the Santa Clara County Farm Bureau at fa*****@sc***********.org
