A wind advisory and freeze watch is in effect mid-day today (Dec. 30) through mid-day Wednesday (Dec. 31) due to a cold and mostly dry storm system that has moved into the Bay Area, according to a City of Morgan Hill announcement made earlier today.
Wind gusts of at least 45 MPH are expected. Winds this strong can topple trees, lead to power outages and make driving difficult, according to the city’s release.
The freeze watch, which kicks in Dec. 31 at midnight through mid-day Thursday (Jan. 1), means sub-freezing temperatures are possible.
Temperatures are expected to dip to 31 degrees by tonight and a low of 28 degrees by Wednesday night, 31 degrees on Thursday and 35 degrees on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
The city has designated the Centennial Recreation Center (171 West Edmundson) as a warming center. The facility is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 30) and Friday (Jan. 2) and from 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 31). It will be closed on Jan. 1.
Shelters are also available at the Gilroy Armory Winter Shelter (8490 Wren Avenue) and the Boccardo Reception Center (211 Little Orchard Street, San Jose).
