A dearth of signups has led the Sobrato High summer sports camp
program to cancel one of its programs set to go next week.
According to Sobrato
’s Marla Carroll, not enough kids signed up for the Do-It-All
sports camp, which was set to begin on Monday, and it had to be
cancelled. Carroll said the rest of the high school’s new sports
camp programs are still not at capacity either.
A dearth of signups has led the Sobrato High summer sports camp program to cancel one of its programs set to go next week.
According to Sobrato’s Marla Carroll, not enough kids signed up for the Do-It-All sports camp, which was set to begin on Monday, and it had to be cancelled.
Carroll said the rest of the high school’s new sports camp programs are still not at capacity either.
“It’s disappointing to see the numbers so far,” Carroll said. “But we’re still hoping it picks up. It is a first-year program.”
Carroll said the field hockey camp, also scheduled to begin on Monday, has barely enough signups to get under way.
She said there is still plenty of room in the camp and it will continue as scheduled, though on a limited basis because of the lack of response.
Meanwhile, Carroll said Sobrato will gear up for the roster of sports camps set to be held in early August.
Scheduled for the weeks of Aug. 1-5 and Aug. 8-12, those sports camps include football, basketball, baseball, soccer, softball, volleyball and cheerleading.
In addition, Sobrato will hold a Got Game 3-on-3 basketball tournament the week of Aug. 8-12.
There is still plenty of room for additional entries in that program, according to Carroll.
Carroll said an effort was made not to overlap the established Live Oak High sports camps program.
Five sports highlight next week’s Live Oak High summer camps
There’s still plenty of room in all five of the Live Oak High sports camp programs set to start on Monday, according to Camp Director Norm Dow.
There are openings in girls basketball, lacrosse, wrestling, badminton and track, which will all feature instruction by LO coaches.
Next week’s sports camps will be held Monday through Friday at Live Oak High. To sign up, go to the LO gym on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, there are plenty of sports camps set to be held the rest of the summer, through the second week in August.
Highlighting those camps is a non-contact, touch rugby session, which will be held the week of July 25-29. There are still openings for boys and girls of all shapes and sizes from 10-14 years of age. All players will learn the fundamentals of rugby – passing, catching, kicking and support.
Other camps set to be held in the next several weeks include: the All-Sports Camp No. 3, soccer, beginning and intermediate/advanced tennis, cheerleading, field hockey, and intermediate and advanced volleyball.
