Live Oak High Principal Nancy Serigstad did not attend Monday
night’s School Board meeting; she attended the Scotts Valley Board
of Education meeting to be introduced to trustees and the community
as the next principal of Scotts Valley High.
Live Oak High Principal Nancy Serigstad did not attend Monday night’s School Board meeting; she attended the Scotts Valley Board of Education meeting to be introduced to trustees and the community as the next principal of Scotts Valley High.
In a letter read aloud by Morgan Hill Board of Education President George Panos, Serigstad announced her decision to accept the position offered by Scotts Valley.
“The decision was a difficult one,” Serigstad wrote.
She also said that she “highly” values her present position, her reasons for leaving include opportunities for personal and professional growth. She said that she has been “overwhelmed by the outpouring of support” from her staff.
Serigstad announced last week that she was being considered as a candidate for the Scotts Valley position.
Outgoing Principal Ken Thomas, who came out of retirement to serve as principal for two years, said last week that he believed Serigstad would be a good fit for the district and that he respected her personally and professionally and has confidence in her abilities.
A team of Scotts Valley trustees, Thomas and community members charged with hiring the new principal paid a visit to the Live Oak campus on Friday.
In her letter, Serigstad warmly praised her staff and the Live Oak community and said that she had been fortunate to have as her mentors Knapp and former Central High Principal Maxine Bartschi.
The many Live Oak civics students attending the board meeting were silent following the reading of the letter, as were members of the Live Oak staff on hand and trustees.
