Dear Editor,
I lived in Morgan Hill for a short seven to eight years. They were, however, were some of the best and worst of times. I was a seventh grader when I came to Morgan Hill and in junior college when I left. My parents moved often and, because of this and the specific people I met in the years that I lived in Morgan Hill, I have always thought of it as my hometown.
Last month someone who meant very much to me passed away. This person was always the embodiment of hospitality, grace as from heaven above, and joy. This person had a difficult time in life from time to time, but always brought the joy of the Lord to each day. When my husband met her for the first time, he said, “I have never felt so very comfortable, loved and at home so quickly in all my life.”
And so it was with her. She had become Morgan Hill to me. I always visited her when I was in town, and was always welcome to stay with her. 450 Claremont had become my home away from home and the image of that little green house will always mean love and acceptance when I imagine it in my mind’s eye.
I no longer live in Morgan Hill; I left there in 1972 to live in Eureka. But, I believe that the entire town should pause and give thanks for one such as her. She was always an inspiration to me and many others as to how to live the so often called “Christian Life.” She shined her light on the Gilroy School District, The Eastern Stars, The Rebecca Lodge and the Presbyterian Church, and we were all grateful, as was exemplified by her memorial on Nov. 30 at the Presbyterian Church.
Morgan Hill has gone through many changes since I lived there and attended Nordstrom School and Live Oak, but the feeling of hospitality and grace that the town still has remains alive in my memory of Dody Cox and the wonderful people of Morgan Hill. Thank you to all I know in town for allowing me to be a part of your life.
