As the month of December draws to a close, one begins to reflect back on all the wonderful and exciting events that Live Oak’s Associated Student Body (ASB) has sponsored. Here’s a quick overview of some recent ASB activities.

The biggest and most popular event for December is the annual Winter Ball. Two huge spotlights ushered students into “New Years in New York,” the theme for this year’s Winter Ball.

Both gyms were complete with two DJs, karaoke, a slide show with pictures of New York, slot machines and a surprise balloon drop at midnight.

On Dec. 15, the freshmen mentors met once again with the freshmen class. During this month’s connection, the mentors helped the freshmen prepare for their finals.

Mentors discussed good study habits, demonstrated how to organize binders, and invited them to attend a free tutoring session in the library after school on Jan. 11.

Live Oak’s Drama Guild has just recently finished their performances of, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

The entire cast and crew did a wonderful job of bringing the holiday classic to the Live Oak stage. For anyone who missed the play, be sure to catch the Drama Guild’s musical, “Oklahoma” in the springtime.

Red Ribbon week, a revived event at Live Oak took place during the week of October 24-28.

Ribbons and stickers were worn that encouraged students to be drug free.

Red t-shirts were also purchased that read, “I like Me DRUG FREE”, proceeds of which went to the ailing Grad Night fund.

Just a reminder to parents: please do not drop off your students inside the student parking lot.

The increase in traffic makes it more hazardous to all students, regardless of whether they were dropped off or drove themselves.

Winter sports have already begun, so make sure to support the Live Oak basketball, soccer, and wrestling teams.
