Dear Editor,
Thank you for the recent front page article written by Matt King regarding the Boys Ranch.
Finally, someone had the integrity to write an accurate and truthful account of the types of criminals that are actually housed at the Ranch.
The memo that I circulated in support of the Boys’ Ranch has been twisted and misquoted.
To set the record straight, we do not feel we are in imminent danger and do not appreciate having our children terrified by ridiculous eyewitness accounts of “frantic escapees sprinting through our neighborhood, scaling fences and running amuck.”
We are confident that the current administration, along with our local law enforcement agencies, are capable of attaining their goal of zero escapes without the use of “neighborhood sirens and prison fencing,” as some of our neighbors have suggested.
What concerns me as a parent and resident of this community is the spreading of distorted information, unnecessary fear, anxiety and needless hysteria.
Collette Maloney wrote “had I known Mosgrove’s address she’d have found the memo she left for me crumpled on her doorstep with the ones she says others have left her as well.”
Ironically, that’s exactly the kind of intolerance and hostility that breeds the hatred and fear so often seen in the troubled youths that end up at detention centers like the one in our neighborhood.
Some may disagree with my point of view, and that is your right, but have the grace and decency to give me the same respect and consideration that I afford you.
