They shook off the antics of the “Daygo Brothers” – Dave Bozzo and Don DeLorenzo – and their “Daygo Girls” and satisfied the judges with their pasta and calamari with bread crumbs and bruschetta.
Maybe next year’s No Bull BBQ or Mushroom Mardi Gras can reciprocate with a similar contest.
Cheers to all those who helped arrest and convict Vincent Cardinalli, his son Paul Greer and two other family members in their tow-and-sue scam that took thousands of dollars from hundreds of innocent victims. Cardinalli faces 14 years in prison. Greer will serve eight years, Cardinalli’s daughter, Rosemary Ball, 35 and her husband, Michael Ball, 39, pleaded will be sentenced to between four and six months of county jail and 150 days of electronic monitoring.
The list of those who helped end the scam starts with Greg Adler, an attorney with Copart, Inc. an auto-salvage company sued by the family. He contacted former South Valley Newspapers reporter Serdar Tumgoren, who meticulously reported and wrote the story that brought the issue to the attention of the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. Former prosecutor Dale Lohman put the case together and prosecutor Victor Chen, who took over the case just last week, credited them with helping put the four in jail.
Jeers to James Lee and anyone else who makes the decision to drive after drinking. Lee was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and killing 4-year-old Jose Cortez-Diaz in a wreck on U.S 101 July 11. The incident should remind everyone of the hazards of drinking and driving. The repercussions of making that ill-fated decision are life altering, and not for the good.
Cheers to those who filed to run for local and political office and for those who have pulled papers and are considering a run. Making the decision to run is a big one. Serving on the city council, school board or Santa Clara Valley Water District board is a time-consuming effort. But, qualified candidates are needed.
Anyone interested can watch the prospective candidate forum held July 22. It will be broadcast on cable channel 19 in Morgan Hill at 8 p.m. Saturday and at 11 a.m. and 3 and 8 p.m. Sunday. It can also be viewed on MHAT-19’s BLIP TV site at http://blip.tv/file/3925210.
And, there is still time to make the decision to get involved. Papers can be picked up at the City Clerk’s office at City Hall, 17555 Peak Ave., the Morgan Hill Unified School District office, 15600 Concord Circle, or the Santa Clara Valley Registrar of Voters office, 1555 Berger Dr., San Jose.
The deadline to file is Aug. 6.
