LO rugby shut out by East Palo Alto

Despite fine efforts from Dustin Muhn, Oliver Garcia and Matt Cruz, the Live Oak High rugby club team lost a hard-fought match against a very strong East Palo Alto side 22-0 at PA Walsh School in Morgan Hill on Friday. Defensively, EPA was very solid. Live Oak’s offensive thrusts into the Razorback defensive zone were met with fierce pressure and numerous tacklers. Live Oak (1-2 overall) continues Skyhawk Conference play this Friday against Los Altos (0-2). Kick-off is scheduled for 5pm at PA Walsh.

MH’s Tuttle earns all-MBL first-team hoops honors as junior

Morgan Hill’s Nick Tuttle, a junior on the Monte Vista Christian High boys basketball team, was selected to the all-Monterey Bay League first team.

Tuttle, a forward, led the Mustangs in scoring at about 13 points per game, and was named to the all-tournament teams at the Aptos and Palma tournaments. Monte Vista (11-16, 4-6 MBL) placed fourth in the league standings, and was the lowest-placed team to have a player on the first team.

Defensive backs coach needed for Acorn varsity football program

Live Oak High football head coach Glen Webb is looking for a varsity defensive secondary coach for the 2005-06 season. Interested candidates should contact Webb by calling (408) 201-6100 (ext. 2164).

LO baseball program to hold golf tourney fundraiser March 25

Looking to raise money for the 2005 season, the Live Oak High baseball program will host its second annual golf tournament fundraiser at Gilroy Golf Course on Friday, March 25.

Registration is at 11:30am, with a shotgun start set for 1pm.

Cost is $80, which includes greens fees, cart, beverages, tee prizes, contest prizes and dinner. Tee and hole sponsors are welcome.

SCBA still adding players for Spring

The SCBA spring basketball program is still accepting players. The Saturday-only league, housed at Britton Middle School, offers separate leagues for both boys and girls, grades 1-12. The team-balancing jamboree will be held this Saturday. Please call ahead to reserve a place and to get answers to any questions.

Also, the SCBA coaching clinic will be held on Saturday, March 12 at 8am.

MH Swim Club tryouts

The Morgan Hill Swim Club has begun its 44th straight year of representing the Morgan Hill community in USA Swimming. Tryouts for the team are open to anyone ages 6-18 are held at the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center every Monday through Friday at 5pm.

Monthly dues begin at no more than $75, with sibling and year-round discount programs offered. The team was awarded national status for the second straight year as a bronze level club by USA Swimming, and has been named as the host team for the 2005 Far Western Championships to be held in Morgan Hill from March 31 through April 3.
