The California Highway Patrol will be holding a “Start Smart” class at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Gilroy CHP office, 740 Renz lane.

The Start Smart program is a free class designed for parents and new or teen drivers that covers preventable measures that teens and parents can take to avoid being a victim in a traffic collision. The class is taught by CHP officers.

The no. 1 cause of death for teens in the United States is traffic collisions, according to CHP.
