Dear Editor,
On June 6, please join me, the League of Women Voters, numerous Chambers of Commerce, and the County Firefighters Association in casting your YES vote for Measure A – the health care, transportation and local accountability measure on our Santa Clara County ballot.
One of the many reasons that hundreds of organizations and individuals strongly support Measure A is that it provides local funds for local needs – funds that, by law, the state cannot take away. Better still, we have found from past experience that our local half-cent sales tax measures not only generate local funds for local priorities – but they actually leverage new regional, state and federal funds that we would otherwise never receive:
Our self-help 1984 Measure generated an additional 25 cents for every local tax dollar it collected.
Our 1996 Measure generated 33 cents in outside funds for every local dollar collected – $500 million additional dollars from regional, state and federal sources!
On June 6 – please vote YES on Measure A. Not only do we ensure local funds for local needs – we also get a better deal from Washingtonand Sacramento. For more on Measure A, please visit www.MeasureA.org.
