Student of week: Dante Gallardo

What inspires you?
My parents and my aspirations inspire me to be the best person I can be. My goals in life have laid down the path I want to follow and my parents are the ones behind me that give me the motivation and inspiration to continue on that path and find the end of it.
What is your favorite subject in school, and why?
My favorite subject is AP Biology because everything I learn in that class is very interesting. It is also the field I want to pursue in college. Mr. Hemeon is also a great teacher which makes the subject even more enjoyable.
If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be?
If I had the power to change one thing in the world it would be getting rid of all the conflict. Too much of our time and money is placed into fighting with one another. Global peace and harmony has never really been prevalent in society and I would like for that to change. In getting rid of conflict, countries can focus on helping their people with what they need and want.
If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
If I could go anywhere, I would go to Venice, Italy again. I have been there twice already and in that time I learned that Venice is sinking six inches every year. Though I have already been there before, it would be nice to see it one more time and really solidify all of my memories that I have of Venice before it disappears completely.
Name one big challenge in your life right now.
One big challenge in my life right now is maintaining my grades while also doing gymnastics. I am a competitive gymnast. This means I have to workout much harder and longer. I workout three and a half hours everyday of the week. This leaves me with just under two hours to complete all the homework I have because it takes 30 minutes to get to the gym where I practice. School gets out at 3:08, I get home at around 3:25pm to 3:30pm. I leave for gym at around 4:45pm. In that time, I eat a snack and finish as much homework I can. Practice starts at 5:30pm and ends at 9pm. I get home at around 9:35 and go to bed around 10:30. The time in between then is spent eating dinner, finishing homework and getting ready for bed. So managing my time is my biggest challenge.
What do you want to do after high school?
Research in Marine Biology
What is your dream job?
My dream job is to do anything that pertains to Marine Biology, whether it be field research or working at an aquarium.
Something that makes you smile?
Spending time with my friends outside of school makes me smile because I rarely have time to. It is also always enjoyable considering they have been at my side since before middle school
