The community is invited to join the Morgan Hill Relay for Life, starting 10 a.m. Saturday at the Community Park on West Edmundson Avenue. The annual event organized is the American Cancer Society’s largest fundraiser for cancer research.

This year’s local Relay for Life is scheduled for 24 hours, ending at 10 a.m. Sunday. Teams sponsored by local schools, businesses, organizations and individuals will spend the day, and night, taking turns walking or running around the path at the park, to show their solidarity with those fighting cancer who have to live with the disease for 24 hours.

Relay for Life gives communities a chance to participate in the fight against cancer and raise awareness, said Morgan Hill Relay for Life committee member Tracee Gluhaich.

Cancer survivors are welcome at this year’s Relay to participate in the opening ceremony and the survivors’ brunch.

The Relay is also looking for volunteers to help conduct the event.

One local organization, Parrotheads in Paradise, will sponsor two teams this year, which have already raised more than $4,000, according to Parrotheads’ chair Christy Schwartz.
