The Metropolitan Transportation Commission on Wednesday awarded a $1.7 million grant to the City of Morgan Hill for the construction of a pedestrian promenade on Third Street between Monterey and Depot streets.
The grant was one of 11 capital projects the commission is funding through its Transportation for Livable Communities program to promote smart growth in the nine-county Bay Area region.
Morgan Hill officials plan to use the money to build colorful sidewalks, add decorative benches and install new streetlights on Third Street to revitalize the downtown core. The work is tentatively scheduled to be completed in late 2008 or early 2009.
