The Santa Clara County Tax Collector’s Office is reminding everyone that the first installment of the 2004/2005 property taxes will be delinquent if not paid by 5pm, Friday, Dec. 10. At that time, a 10 percent penalty and a $20 cost will be added.

Tax installment payments should be mailed, along with the first installment stub, to the Tax Collector’s Office, 70 W. Hedding St. in San Jose, CA 95110. The U.S. postmark must be Dec. 10 or earlier to avoid penalties.

Checks are accepted, but not cash. Cash payments must be made in person at the County Government Center, 70 W. Hedding St. in the East Wing on the sixth floor.

To pay taxes with a credit card or e-check, visit the Tax Collector’s Office website at www.scctax.org. A convenience fee is associated with either of these payment types and will be passed on to the taxpayer.

Property owners are responsible for the taxes even if they haven’t received a bill. Those owners whose taxes are paid by their lending agency, usually receive a copy of he tax bill indicating that the original statement was sent to the lending agency.

Property owners who need information about paying their taxes can visit www.scctax.org or call 808-7900.
