Santa Clara County Cattlewomen has given Gilroy High School graduate Jiana Escobar and Live Oak High School graduates Anthony Friebel and Erin Schlegel this year’s Cattlewomen’s Scholarships.

Leslie Vertin, scholarship chairman of Cattlewomen, said: “It’s great for our industry to have these young students showing interest and following through and continuing to pursue educations in this field.”

Escobar received a $1,000 scholarship, Friebel received a $700 scholarship and Schlegel received a $500 scholarship. The students earned the awards due to their academic excellence and their interest and involvement in the cattle industry. All three students raised cattle during their high school years.

The students received the awards at the end of May. They will use the funds to pay for the college educations. Schlegel is going to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Friebel is going to West Valley College and Escobar will be attending Modesto Junior College.
