Britton Middle School was locked down for a short time Wednesday afternoon at the request of the Morgan Hill Police Department.
The mother of a Britton student reported her husband was despondent over a pending divorce and thought he might try to commit suicide, according to Morgan Hill police Cmdr. David Swing.
She saw his car drive by the house and became concerned that he was going to go to the school to see the child. She also had a child at El Toro Elementary School, Swing said, but she picked up that child before the school had to be locked down.
“When someone is in that state of mind, we take precautions we might not normally take because we don’t know what they are going to do,” Swing said. “In that situation, we want to insure the safety of the kids, not just her kids, but all of the kids.”
