Thank you for the article covering our Central High School graduation.
It means so much to our students to be recognized for their achievement. They are an awesome group; in addition to the “regular” concerns of teenagers, such as figuring out who they are and what they want to do with their lives, they face obstacles that would defeat most of us.
Many of them deal with poverty, lack of self-esteem and, increasingly in the last few years, homelessness. That they manage to get to school ona regular basis is comendable; that they graduate and move on to higher education is miraculous! They are my heroes and friends as well as my students.
The article contained an unfortunate error that needs correction. Felicia Peregrina gave birth to a beautiful daughter in December, not Carrie Schuapp. Both young women graduated early and we are extreamly proud of both of them.
