Whether it was the influence of the full moon or a two-day drug binge, a naked and bleeding Morgan Hill man was arrested early Friday morning after he terrorized Jack in the Box employees and a family at a home on Peak Avenue.
Juan Luna, 36, was booked into Santa Clara County Jail, according to Morgan Hill Police Cmdr. Joe Sampson.
Luna was charged with alleged felony vandalism, breaking and entering, trespassing and suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was on parole at the time of the arrest, so he also allegedly violated his parole.
The incident began when Luna, who later told police he’d been doing methamphetamine “for a day or two,” allegedly smashed through a double-pane window of a duplex on Peak Avenue and climbed through the window into the residence.
“He was lacerated pretty good as he crawled in the broken window,” Sampson said. “Once inside, he was screaming at the residents that he was going to kill them. This was at 1am, so you can imagine their feelings.”
The family ran out the back door, Sampson said, and Luna then jumped out of the house through the window.
Luna then apparently decided he needed to go to his mother’s house in Gilroy and contacted a girlfriend, Sampson said. He allegedly asked the girlfriend to take him to his mother’s home.
As the car traveled south on Monterey Road, Sampson said, Luna jumped out. Next, he decided to crawl through the drive-through window at the Jack in the Box restaurant on Monterey Road.
“He was still bleeding profusely, and the employees were terrified,” Sampson said. “They ran into a storeroom in the back and locked themselves in.”
At some point, Luna decided to take off his clothes and wrap himself in plastic, Sampson said. He was apparently wandering all over the kitchen of the restaurant.
“The whole place was a bloody mess,” he added.
Customers arriving at the restaurant saw Luna and called police. When officers arrived, they found Luna clothed in the plastic wrap. He was not willing to go peacefully with officers until they told him that they would have to use a taser on him if he didn’t, Sampson said. No one was injured in the incident.
