Bernice Montoya passed away in Morgan Hill on February 11, 2016, at the age of 95.
Bernice was born and raised in Gilroy. She attended Gilroy High and Hartnell College in Salinas.
She was the daughter of the late Levi and Cecil Richman, an old Orchard Farming Family, and late sister of Elvin Richman.
She leaves behind her son, Darrell Bruton of Jamestown; daughters, Yvonna (Jim) Harris of Ohio, Nancy (Ray) Malech of Coyote, Susie (TR) Smith of Morgan Hill, step-son, Mike (Joan) Montoya of Morgan Hill and daughter, Darlene (Ken) Brock proceeded her in death on November 6, 2015.
Bernice had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
Bernice was at times a Secretary, Foster Parent, Assistant Nurse and Sunday School Teacher. She also shared her home to family and close friends who needed help.
She attended Community Christian Church and loved everyone there, as they did her. She was a woman of great faith.
Everyone loved Granny’s laughter, jokes, tender love and support.
At 95, she was fully alert and could move around with her walker pretty fast.
Safeway employees on Dunne Avenue in Morgan Hill were such a help to her on her Tuesday Coffee and Shopping Days. And Carolyn Heiman and her staff treated Bernice like a Princess. She was cared for at Valley Pines. We are so ever indebted to their care and kindnesses to her.
