Independent School Fair

In conjunction with the Las Madres Kindergarten Night, several schools will participate in a school fair to introduce interested Morgan Hill, San Martin and Gilroy families to their schools. The free event, held Jan. 18, 7pm-9pm in the El Toro Room at the Community and Cultural Center at Monterey Road and Dunne Avenue, will showcase several schools. Mount Madonna School, Anchorpoint Christian High School, Crossroads Christian School, St. Catherine School and Shadow Mountain Baptist School will all participate in the fair in order to answer questions from parents and to distribute school information and applications with parents.

Free Summer Seminar for Teachers

Public and private school teachers are invited to apply to participate in free American History summer seminars. The Gilder lehrman Institute of American History sponsors one-week seminars across the U.S. and England for teachers at every level. Teachers participating in the seminars will receive a $400 stipend, books and room and board. Each seminar is limited to 30 teachers. Historians from universities including Stanford, Columbia, Yale and the University of Virginia will lead the seminars on topics including the Colonial Era, the U.S. Constitution, the Underground Railroad, the Great Depression, the Cold War and the Civil Rights Movement. To apply, teachers can visit www.gilderlehrman.org. Applications must be postmarked or submitted electronically by Feb. 15.
