Gun buyback supporter asks where the ’gun carrying’ concept would stop exactly?

Dear Editor,

I am one of the Morgan Hill residents who strongly support a possible gun buyback program in the South Valley. Getting guns off the street would certainly make some people feel safer even conceding that safety cannot really be quantified.

Possibly with reason, some people are afraid of voicing any opinions in support of gun control which might offend the gun lobby (and hence the National rifle Association).

I am not sure more guns are a good solution. I am not even sure that the recent purchase of semiautomatic guns by the Fontana School District would necessarily serve any useful purpose. What is to prevent bad guys from getting hold of these guns?

Recently, Caltrain 221 was delayed in San Jose because of a violent and contentious passenger. It is unlikely that anyone would be carrying a gun on a commute train but nothing prevents a disgruntled commuter from returning another day with an assault weapon(s) and attacking the engineers and other passengers. The NRA might recommend that Caltrain engineers be trained in weapons and carry weapons but where does this stop?

Is the ability to handle guns a mandatory qualification for most jobs?

Where’s outrage from public officials over Supervisor Shirakawa’s credit charges?

Dear Editor,

Much has been written about Supervisor George Shirakawa Jr.  Some ask for his resignation, others think he should pay back the money.

The lack of indignation from other public officials is also troubling. Even more troubling is that Supervisor George Shirakawa does not appear to believe that he has done anything wrong. Even more troubling is apparently most other government officials in the county seemed to agree with Shirakawa.

Where are the cries for an audit of all government issued credit cards?
