Recovered stolen vehicle
A resident of an unspecified location in Morgan Hill arrived home to find a stolen 1998 Honda Civic parked in the driveway, with the engine running, according to police reports. No one was around the vehicle at the time. The incident was reported 3:46 p.m. July 6.
Burglary
A thief or thieves broke open the back door of a home in Morgan Hill and stole an undisclosed number of jewelry boxes, according to police reports. The crime was reported 5:10 p.m. July 6.
Auto burglary
Someone smashed the back window of a blue 2015 Dodge Journey parked at an undisclosed location in Morgan Hill, and stole a backpack and camera, according to police reports. The crime was reported 8:49 p.m. July 6.
Stolen vehicle
A purple 2000 Honda Civic was stolen from the area of Del Monte and Cosmo avenues, according to police reports. The crime was reported 11:26 a.m. July 8.
Fraud
A suspect or suspects printed fraudulent checks on the victim’s business account and withdrew about $700 from the account, according to police reports. The crime was reported 1:52 p.m. July 8.
A resident was scammed out of $250,000 when a caller pretending to be from a New York attorney’s office told her she won money through a sweepstakes, according to police reports. The caller told the victim that she had to pay taxes on the prize up front before she could claim the winnings. She paid the money, but later learned there was no prize. The crime was reported 2:21 p.m. July 9, and the fraudulent phone calls started in January.
Fire
Tan bark in the median at Monterey Road and Dunne Avenue caught on fire, according to police. The fire was reported 5:46 p.m. July 8.
Disturbance
Two neighbors got into an altercation when one of the female parties yelled at the other woman’s kids for climbing on her fence, police reported. One woman sprayed the other with a water hose.
Grand theft
A resident of an unspecified location in Morgan Hill reported a suitcase, iPhone, iPad and clothing were stolen from the trunk of their vehicle after they entered the home to bring other items inside, according to police reports. The total value of the items was about $1,000. The crime was reported 8:35 a.m. July 10.
