A San Jose man was arrested Monday afternoon after he allegedly embezzled approximately $3,000 from the local gas station he had just started to work for.
Tu Nguyen, 27, was booked into Santa Clara County Jail for alleged embezzlement, according to Morgan Hill police Special Operations Sgt. Jerry Neumayer.
Officers received a call at approximately 2:30 p.m. from the manager of the
UNOCAL 76 gas station on the northwest corner of Monterey Road and Dunne Avenue. The manager told officers that he suspected Nguyen, a new employee, had not put money from Saturday and Sunday into the safe at the end of each day.
Neumayer said that when officers arrived on the scene, Nguyen came out of the station office, and officers talked to him, but did not feel at that time they had enough evidence to arrest him, so he left the station.
As the investigation continued, officers received more information and believed they did have enough to arrest him, so they looked for him in the downtown area.
When he saw the officers, Neumayer said, he was in the parking lot behind the businesses between East Second Street and East Third Street, and he ran from them.
The officers caught him and arrested him.
