Morgan Hill police were called to the downtown area outside of the Legends Bar and Grill early Saturday morning and arrested a man for allegedly drinking too much alcohol.
Carmen Pena, 23, of Morgan Hill, was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of being drunk in public and alleged possession of a controlled substance.
Officers responded to the downtown sports bar at 12:25 a.m. and found Pena outside, apparently having difficulty walking. Although he did not fight with officers, according to Morgan Hill police Special Operations Sgt. Jerry Neumayer, he did not listen to officers' commands and had to be placed in a control hold to handcuff him. Officers discovered a baggie with approximately one gram of suspected cocaine in his pocket, Neumayer added.
Also on Saturday, officers responded to John Wilson Way on a report of domestic violence. Neumayer said that a 23-year-old Morgan Hill woman told officers that her 42-year-old boyfriend had choked her and struck her in the face. She also told officers that there were several incidents of violence from Aug. 9 until Saturday. She was taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital with injuries to her back, leg and face and was treated and released.
The man, also a Morgan Hill resident, had left the scene before officers arrived. Neumayer said the department is seeking a warrant for his arrest. When the warrant is obtained, likely later this week, the department will release his name and photo.
