Reminder from police: Fireworks prohibited in Morgan Hill
Jul 1, 2008 - Staff Reports
Morgan Hill police remind the community personal fireworks are not permitted in the city. The Morgan Hill Independence Day Inc. organizes a professional display each year on the Fourth of July, but personal fireworks are prohibited.
"We'd like to encourage people to attend the fireworks at Community Park," said Morgan Hill police Special Operations Sgt. Jerry Neumayer. "It's a family event, no alcohol sold."
Officers will have zero tolerance for any other fireworks and will issue a citation and a fine.
Because of the already busy fire season, Gov. Schwarzenegger has asked Californians to refrain from using fireworks during their celebrations of the Fourth of July.
Neumayer said residents should notify the police department on the non-emergency number, (408) 779-2101, if they see people using fireworks, but also be aware that the department typically gets 100 or more calls in a period of several hours on the holiday, so the response may be delayed. Extra officers will be on duty for the fireworks at Community Park, but officers also have to answer other calls for service.
