A plume of smoke was visible over the western hills to Morgan Hill residents for the second Sunday morning in a row as a small but hungry conflagration consumed an acre in unincorporated Morgan Hill.
CalFire crews quickly contained the blaze that may have started as a result of a downed power line.
Flames and a plume of smoke were visible from homes on West Edmundson Avenue and Oak Glen Avenue as the grass and brush in the area of Armsby Lane fed the fire. According to Chris Morgan, fire prevention specialist for CalFire, a quick response kept the 10:30 a.m. blaze contained to approximately an acre, and crews were being released by 11 a.m. An air attack, with copters dropping buckets of water, helped keep flames from spreading.
Morgan said the cause of the fire had not been confirmed, but he said there was a power line down in the area, and once the line was de-energized, crews could get into the area to make a determination.
Last weekend, an unusual weather pattern led to several lightning strikes in the area, three of them igniting one smaller and two major blazes.
