I see everybody driving around with their wireless phones glued to their ears. That puts the antennae right next to their brains, and these things radiate - like I know they do - are we going to look at a generation of tumors and brain cancer in the next 10 to 15 years? Some people live with these phones all day long next to their head. I've been in the business for many years, and when I set these phones up I've had to measure the antennae radiation.
Red Phone: In repeated reports, the major wireless carriers insist there is no danger from cell phone radiation. Then again, CEOs from the major tobacco companies made sworn testimony before Congress that smoking is not addicting.
There have been a few studies published this year that address the situation. Most notably, a study put out by Dr Vini Khurana, a top neurosurgeon who deals with Cerebrovascular and Complex Tumor surgery.
His study draws on growing evidence that using handsets for 10 years (cancers take at least a decade to develop) or more can double the risk of brain cancer. Of course, the Mobile Operators Association dismissed Khurana's study. They believe he "does not present a balanced analysis" of the published science, and "reaches opposite conclusions to the WHO and more than 30 other independent expert scientific reviews." Keep in mind caller that these results are only after heavy use and constant exposure over an extended period of time, so there's no reason to panic. In the meantime, keep the phone calls short, concise, and to the point. Maybe you'll even save some minutes.
Gutter litter
We have a neighbor who sweeps and washes his street and lets all the garbage flow down the gutter and washes all the trash off the street into the gutter and pushes it down the drain. He doesn't respond to requests to stop.
Red Phone: We contacted Santa Clara Valley Water District spokesperson Susan Siravo, who said it's important for people to realize that storm drains flow directly to creeks. Therefore trash put in a storm drain will end up in your local creek.
Creeks are natural drainage systems, carrying storm water away from homes and businesses, and they are valuable natural resources. While most people know that trash and chemicals should not go into a creek, many don't know that leaves and soil also pollute and obstruct flow and may result in flooding. It is illegal to dump anything into a creek or storm drain. To report illegal dumping, call the District Pollution Prevention Hotline (24 hours) at 1.888.510.5151. The let Red Phone know and we'll make sure your complaint is followed up.
No blinkers around town
I've been driving a long time, and it seems I'm seeing more and more motorists neglecting their blinkers. They are there for a reason, and that is to let other know your intentions. Please, please, turn on your blinkers when making a turn.
Red Phone: Red Phone can add "no signaling" to the already long list of driving pet peeves along with: slow driving in the fast lane, "pac-man" driving (this is where the driver drives over the lane dividers while being distracted with something else, essentially "eating the dots/lines"), tailgating, rubbernecking ("Oh look an accident, let's slow down to check it out."), slaloming (weaving in and out between lanes only to get ahead one car ahead), and not knowing the "4-way stop rhythm" (resulting into the "4-way stop showdown"). Drive defensively caller, be safe!
