When is Farmers Market returning? Just wondering when the Farmers Market is going to start up again. We could sure use it right now.
Dear Farmers Market Fan: We have good news for you, caller. The Farmers Market is coming back. Red Phone called Virginia Sellers, manager of the Morgan Hill Farmer Market since 1985, who said the popular event will run 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 10 and every Saturday through December at the downtown train depot located at Third and Depot streets, rain or shine. If you have any questions, you can call Sellers at 1 (800) 806-3276 or (408) 779-5130.
Drug take-back program at Costco I was just reading Friday's paper, "Where can I take my unused drugs" and I don't know of any in Morgan Hill like you said, but Costco's pharmacy in Gilroy takes any kind of expired meds or any kind of medication.
Dear Informed Reader: Thank you for the information! Our April 18 Red Phone column informed readers of Leiter's Pharmacy, 1700 Park Ave., Ste. 30, (408) 292-6772, in San Jose, which was the only pharmacy we knew of at the time that took unused prescription drugs. That pharmacy has collected more than 700 pounds of unused drugs since its drug take-back program in November.
This new knowledge gives those wanting to dispense their unused drugs another option. For more information call Costco's Pharmacy at (408) 848-0702 or visit them at 7251 Camino Arroyo, in Gilroy.
Caller, cities like Morgan Hill and Gilroy don't have a drug take-back program to prevent these drugs from contaminating our water supply. These cities, as others in the county, are waiting for Santa Clara County supervisors to prevent this from continuing to happen. State legislators have passed a law requiring governmental agencies to develop drug take-back programs. The county, under Supervisor Ken Yeager's proposal, will determine how it's going to respond to the law. In March, Yeager asked county officials to conduct a study as to what can be done to prevent antibiotics, mood stabilizers and hormones from ending up in the local drinking water.
According to an Associated Press study, more than 40 million Americans swallow traces of prescription drugs when drinking tap water. The medications wind up in the water supply when residents flush them down the toilet or discard excess pills in the trash, where chemicals can leach into the water supply.
Reader disappointed in car wash I have not gone to Morgan Hill Car Wash in a number of years because I have never been particularly happy with their services. I decided last week to try them again. I selected my package and asked the employee to make sure that my car seats were vacuumed out, as they were full of crumbs. After my car was done I tipped the employee very generously and then looked over my car. My car seats were not even close to being touched with a vacuum. The crayon my son put on my window was still there and my husband used a baby wipe to clean it off in a matter of seconds. I had chocolate milk still on my center console. These are just a few things I noticed. I am still disappointed in the service there and will stick to my original feeling of going out of town to get a decent car wash. I try to support local businesses but when the service is that terrible I'd rather pay more and get it done right!
Dear Still Disappointed: John DeCarlo, general manager of Morgan Hill Car Wash and Gift Shop, responded to your complaint with this e-mail: "Customer service is of the utmost importance to us here at Morgan Hill Car Wash and Gift Shop, before we turn the car over to the customer we always ask them to look it over to ensure that they receive the service they paid for, and are satisfied with their experience here. We have many different packages that take care of different services. If you would like to come back in and speak to myself or one of the assistant managers, we would happy to rectify the problem with you. This is the first time we have been made aware of this particular complaint and we would love the opportunity to have you back in."
Caller, if you would like to speak to DeCarlo directly, please call him at (408) 779-5477.
